Masha`Allah. This is right, and Tilawah is important, but if in Arabic the word translated as learning here does not restrict us to recitation, then there is a deeper dimension to learning than Tajweed or Tilawah, I think. To me this Hadeeth would mean implementing the message of the Quran in our lives, like the Hadith in which ummul mimineen Aisha (ra) is asked about how the prophet (saw) lived, and she said something like: "Haven't you read the Quran. He was the living Quran".

It gets hotter and hotter

It gets hotter and hotter, and drier and drier, every day. The whole of the Northern South Asian sub-continent, (and possibly the Southern part as well), is in the grip of drought. People have begun to die of thirst and heatstroke. In India, by last week 53 people had died of heatstroke. Mild drought has been declared in six districts of Baluchistan. Thar is always the first to be without water, so the conditions there must be worse. It is very severe, and looks like worsening. It takes a lot of misery for governments to admit there is a problem.

Rains, if they come, are not expected until the middle of July (16th).

In fact I think the whole of the Asian African landmass is suffering from droughts of various degrees, and more is likely.

We need your duas for immediate rains.

A help feature has been added by NancyB which will teach you how to enter data on a wiki in three easy steps. By practicing on the wiki you can learn how to enter current ISP data and will also learn the skills to use any wiki, anywhere. The page for ISP info is here:

Just click on Help which appears on the navigation bar on the left hand side of the page, and you will be taken to a page which will teach anyone who knows how to type how to use a wiki. The page contains links to what is called a sandbox, where you can practice without worrying about mistakes. So please try it out.

Unfortunately, the joy at finding the blogs access unimpeded was short lived, and it looks as if the ban has again been imposed.

More concerted efforts needed to bring sense here.

Drought hits Pakistan

There have been no rains (except for sparing showers) for months. The winter went by without rains or snowfall . The spring was no exception. Now summer has started and this is the driest time of the year. The warning signs were all there. Civic authorities have tried to conserve water sources, but the level of the reservoirs is at an all-time low. A few days ago the Khanpur dam was reported to have only five feet of water.

Only five feet!

Wells have gone dry. The rivers and the streams are dry. There is not much water coming from melting of the leftover snow. Most of Pakistan has become parched.

This is only the beginning of May. The whole of May, June, and the first half of July will pass dry before we expect the Monsoons.

It is urgent. Drought, followed by famine, is looming large on the horizon.

Can anything be organised before it hits us fully.
